Private Alba Truffle Hunting

Private Alba Truffle Hunting Tour with Local Hunter and Trained Dog

Join our Private Alba Truffle Hunting for a unique experience with a skilled hunter and a specially trained truffle-hunting dog, as we explore the secrets, history, and traditions of this age-old practice, and celebrate with an informal food tasting in the woods and a toast with the hunter!

Unlike our Truffle Hunting and Barolo Wine Tasting Tour, which is necessarily set between Alba and the Barolo wine region, the Private Alba Truffle Hunting tour can take place in the woodlands of the Langhe, Roero, and Monferrato Hills in southern Piedmont. Depending on availability, our hunter may be within a 45-minute drive of the town of Alba.

Recognizing that Alba is not the only area where white truffles thrive, we have handpicked experienced truffle hunters who manage private truffle woods, often passed down through generations, situated in areas away from agricultural or industrial development. By booking our Private Alba Truffle Hunting, you can explore Piedmont’s countryside, where the pristine environment fosters natural truffle growth, all while enjoying a fun and engaging walk through the woods.

This informative tour covers all aspects of truffles, including soil composition, climate, trees, dog training, and much more.

We conclude the truffle-hunting tour with a tasting of local traditional products from nearby farms, including salami, cheese, and a glass of wine. Depending on availability, the tasting might feature a fried egg topped with freshly shaved truffles or truffle-enhanced condiments served on bread.

Our truffle hunting in Italy’s Piedmont region is not staged, meaning there are no guarantees for finding truffles. Truffle types vary by season. The Alba white truffle (Tuber magnatum Pico) can be foraged from October to January. Other types of truffles, such as the summer black truffle (Tuber aestivum), the spring white truffle (Tuber borchii Vittadini), and the winter black truffle (Tuber Melanosporum and Tuber Uncinatum), have distinct seasons throughout the year.

It was a great experience, Alessandro was very kind and demonstrated a lot of knowledge. We really enjoyed the truffle hunting, Theo was a very nice dog with lots of energy. The testing after the hunt was also very nice and the products we tasted were delicious. We were glad to be able to purchase some. We would certainly recommend the truffle hunting. Grazie Mille!
